ONE A DAY !!! TANDAVA OF DESTRUCTION…CREATION

Just as Ganesha symbolises new beginnings, Shiva’s dance of destruction or the tandava symbolises destruction of the past. The past that holds you back from letting the new come in, the past, which keeps you connected to that ‘non-existence’, the past that is keeping you ‘attached’ to the ‘gone’, that past has to be relinquished for the new reality to take shape. Only when a tandava reaches its saturation, tabula rasa follows and it is the start of a new day, a new beginning.

TANDAVA OF DESTRUCTION…CREATION From the series titled, “Tabula Rasa…for a new beginning”!

Tabula Rasa in Latin means a clear slate, and originates from the Roman tabula or wax tablet used for notes, which was blanked by heating the wax and then smoothening it, to give a tabula rasa. In Psychology, it relates to the theory that at birth the (human) mind is a “blank slate” without rules for processing data, and that data is added and rules for processing are formed solely by one’s sensory experiences. And so in order to reach for his goals and desires, despite the setbacks that one has faced, one needs to clear his mind to reach a tabula rasa and start afresh.  In this series, the artist has exhibited pictures those describe the meaning of ‘Tabula Rasa’, ‘before it is reached’ and ‘after it is reached’ in the human mind.

Shakti of Kutchh

On the day when Narendra Modi wins the Gujarat election to become the Chief Minister for the third time in a row…I bring to you the women from his land…. The Kutchhi woman is very beautiful and takes care to always be decked up with ornaments and jewellery….These are tribal women of Gujarat….and you must notice the difference in their attire…The different tribes can actually be identified by the kind of clothes they wear….

And I remember the famous Billy Joel song….

She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes.
And she can ruin your faith with her casual lies.
And she only reveals what she wants you to see.
She hides like a child, but she’s always a woman to me.
She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you.
She can ask for the truth but she’ll never believe.
And she’ll take what you’ll give her as long as it’s free.
Yeah, she steals like a thief, but she’s always a woman to me.

Also this post is dedicated to all the women especially The Indian woman…and sadly as crimes against women increase in India I pray to God that the feminine and Shakti(power) is actually praised and worshiped as much in daily life as in the sacred Hindu scriptures. And would like to end with this Sloka addressed to DURGA the goddess of power (Shakti).

“Yaa Devii Sarvabhuuteshhu Maatrirupena Sansthitah
Yaa Devii Sarvabhuuteshhu Shaktirupena Sansthitah
Yaa Devii Sarvabhuuteshhu Shaantirupena Sansthitah
Namastasyaih Namastasyaih Namastasyaih Namo Namah”

Meaning: Goddess Durga is omnipresent. She is the personification of Universal Mother. She is a Mother, who is present everywhere and who is embodiment of power and energy. Great mother, who is present everywhere and who is embodiment of Peace. I bow to that mother, I bow to Durga, I bow to Shakti.
